Holiday Love

Photo by Haley Sheffield, quote by Abby Mallet, via her comment on Kate's post

I wasn't kidding in my last post: Michigan winter has arrived, and I think it's here to stay for a while. After a bizarrely warm weekend in the 70s, the temperature has dropped to a high of 36 today and doesn't break out of the 40s all week. Yesterday, it snowed - big fat flurries that fell from the sky. The wind has a bitter edge that I haven't felt in nearly a year, leaving any exposed patch of skin red and icy cold. Oh winter.

I can't say that I love the cold, but the holiday season and all the little family traditions make the chill bearable. Sipping chai under a blanket with Christopher. Mom's pumpkin pie. Sitting in front of my parents' fireplace. Christmas morning. Family game night on New Years. Those memories, that love... they really do sustain you until spring.

Is it really weird to say I'm jealous you had snow?? I'll be in the midwest/east coast for the next few weeks and I packed my snow boots just in case :)

Wow - snow!!! I would LOVE to have snow at Christmas time... we only ever get hot summer Christmases here in Sydney. It sounds so romantic to be able to cuddle under a blanket sipping hot chai/tea in the holiday season.

@Cal -- I hope it snows for you, then! It can be pretty magical, I will admit... I'm just not ready for it yet.

@Ronnie -- I think I tend to take the seasons for granted. There really is nothing quite like a white Christmas, although Santa riding on a surf board takes a close second! :)

I know exactly what you mean. I don't LOVE the cold weather... but there are so many fun activities going on in November and December that I can't help but love this time of year -- even the cold weather!

I do really miss the snow though.

I am pretty excited about winter this year, that quote from Abby really resonated with me too. :)
